Johnny Amore Brings to Life the Superheroes in Children
at The Children’s Museum

[Amman, Jordan – April 2009] – The Children’s Museum in association with Makan invited a superhero artist, Johnny Amore, to share his experience with a group of 10 children as part of the Museum’s Meet the Artist Program on Thursday April 9th and Saturday April 11th.  Children selected were from communities that would generally not be able to access the Museum’s unique programs or meet international artists. The participating children learned about superheroes and how to create one!

Johnny Amore’s workshop exposed children to the secret world of superheroes. Johnny and the children self reflected on hero-like characteristics they have and brought them to life by creating their own superheroes, designing imaginary costumes and drawing physical representation based on personal traits they value.  Johnny Amore expressed his thoughts and shared his experience through a video work about him being a superhero roaming the world.  He also brought to light the traits of a hero and how they come to life.

Nissreen Haram, Director of The Children’s Museum stated, “Superheroes are often mentors for children who protect important values and carry traits of good citizenship.  That is why it is important for children to discover the traits of a superhero and how to create one.  In turn, this empowers children’s personalities and creative selves as they reflect on their own individuality to find the superhero within.”
