Children and Families Celebrate The Working Community at The Children’s Museum’s “When I Grow Up I Will Be the Best…” Labor Day Event

  • Labor Day Initiates The Children’s Museum “Month of Jordan”

[Amman, Jordan – May 2009] – Children and families from across the Kingdom joined The Children’s Museum celebrations for Jordan’s working community on May 1st and 2nd.  Part of the “Month of Jordan,” The Children’s Museum “When I Grow Up I Will Be the Best…” Labor Day festivities included various interactive activities families and children enjoyed as they commemorated the working community for contributing to Jordan and discovered what career opportunities lied ahead in their future.

The Children’s Museum “Month of Jordan” is a celebration of Jordan’s national heritage, emphasizing the importance of the people and their contributions to the making of Jordan from May 1st-June 10th.  Labor Day initiated the “Month of Jordan,” starting by praising and honoring the working people; aiming to celebrate civic competence. The prime sponsor for the “Month of Jordan” is the Bank of Jordan. Other sponsors include Mawared, Aramex and The Greater Amman Municipality/ Centennial Celebrations along with the Al-Faridah Group and Al Kawn as the media sponsors.

The “When I Grow Up I Will Be the Best…” Labor Day activities demonstrated the array of career opportunities available for children.  Children were able to try on various work uniforms that raised the question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” On Friday, they met paramedics, asked questions and got to go inside an ambulance!  The families and the children also watched the play “The Hen and Her Helpers” followed by a uniform parade led by a boy scouts band performance.  On Saturday similar activities were held.

Nissreen Haram, Director of The Children’s Museum stated, “The working community is a driving force for any nation, and the Jordanian workforce must be recognized for its role in creating our great Kingdom!  In celebrating Jordan and our heritage, we felt it was appropriate to launch the “Month of Jordan” with Labor Day as we reinforce the idea that a strong working community creates a stronger Kingdom.  We also wanted children to widen their horizons by role playing various career opportunities, so that they may understand the vast work potentials their future holds and the vital role it plays in our society.”
